I recently read Audition by Katie Kitamura. I bought a copy for my friend as I thought the theme of dementia would interest him. When he read it, he saw in it the estrangement of children becoming adults instead.
I since read Kitamura talk about how the novel is a Rorsach Test for readers, each person reading their own version.
The amazing thing about reading, how it is at once private and a duet and communal....
And if you go back to it, it is different again. We listen to the same piece of music again so often, but it is quite rare to keep going back to a book. I enjoy the short poems and blessings because I can go back to them and find new meanings…
